About

Sheltering Hearts Foundation

Sheltering Hearts Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing refuge for women and children escaping domestic violence. Founded by Christa Holloway, the foundation was born from a deep and personal understanding of the challenges faced by survivors and the urgent need for a supportive environment that fosters healing and independence.

At Sheltering Hearts, we believe that safety, stability, and community are essential for rebuilding lives. Our mission is to offer secure temporary housing, compassionate support, and essential resources to help individuals transition from crisis to self-sufficiency. More than just a shelter, we provide a homelike environment where women and children can find solace, regain their confidence, and take meaningful steps toward a fresh start.

Through personalized support, mental health resources, educational opportunities, and career training, we empower survivors to reclaim their independence and build a brighter future. Sheltering Hearts is more than a place of refuge—it is a community where healing begins, resilience grows, and new beginnings thrive.

Battered Women in Sacramento

Domestic violence remains a pervasive issue affecting countless lives. In Sacramento:

23.2% of women have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

1,500+ women seek refuge in local shelters annually.

In 2020, the Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center served 1,519 children of survivors.

Many women and children have nowhere to go, reinforcing the need for safe shelters like Sheltering Hearts.

These numbers underscore the vital importance of accessible, safe havens and support services for women and their children escaping domestic violence.
